According to TMZ , the “Ghost” actress’ friend who called the paramedics on Monday (January 23) told the dispatcher, “She smoked something. It’s not marijuana… It’s similar to incense. Helen Mirren Does Not Worship At The Altar Of The 18-Year-Old Male Penis

Helen Mirren is one of those people who, when she talks, you listen. This Tuesday, the Dame received the Sherry Lansing Leaderships Award — so named for the former CEO of Paramount Pictures — at The Hollywood Reporter ‘s annual Women in Entertainment breakfast. Although consummately gracious for receiving her award, Helen criticized the subtle sexism of Hollywood, which puts older actresses out to pasture while keeping older male actors in the stables and produces films that “worship at the altar of the 18- and 25-year-old male and his penis.” Helen’s summation? “Quite small, I always think.” After the jump, a transcript of Helen’s speech:

Famous Men Who Took Their Wives’ Last Names

Earlier this year, a guy wrote to Dear Wendy upset that his girlfriend wouldn’t take his last name if they got married. Wendy’s response? “You’re not a hard-line traditionalist or a domineering macho type? Good! Then you shouldn’t have a problem with taking your wife’s name if you feel so strong in your convictions that a family unit should share the same surname.” It’s still not common , per se, but more and more men are taking their wives’ names for a variety of reasons—because their wife is an only child, because they like the sound of her name better, or because they don’t have a great relationship with their own father. Interestingly, there are lots of barriers up for guys thinking of doing this; it’s only an option in eight states. And in California, a dude had to sue to get the right to make the change. “I had a rough childhood with my father,” says Michael Buday, explaining why he wanted to take his fiancee Diana Bijon’s last name. “We never really got along. Diana’s father stepped up, gave me career advice. He’s family.” [ USA Today ] Earlier, I brought you female celebrities who took their husbands’ names . It got me thinking, are there any male stars who’ve taken their wives’ names? The answer is yes. Find out who after the jump.

Justin Bieber & Selena Gomez: Q102 Jingle Ball Buddies

They’re both massively successful in their own right, so when Justin Bieber and Selena Gomez hit up the 2010 Q102 Jingle Ball last night, it was an evening to remember. Mr. Bieber took the stage at the Susquehanna Bank Center in Camden, New Jersey in top form, even serenading a lucky female fan and giving her a bouquet of roses. Meanwhile, Selena had her own high-powered set, performing in a beautiful white getup and going barefoot! Miss Gomez has been extra busy this week, as she sang at the KIIS-FM Jingle Ball in Los Angeles this past Sunday, and she’ll take the stage at the Z100 Jingle Ball in New York City tonight. Today’s Lady News: Dr. Oz Spanked For Naughty Nurses Segment

Time for some triage, Oprah: “The Dr. Oz Show” is in trouble for stereotyping naughty nurses! A November segment featured six women — uh, not nurses — dressed in retro nurse costumes with red lingerie peeking out and high heels as they danced around host Dr. Mehmet Oz. Klassy! A group called The Truth About Nursing called the segment a “sexist caricature of nursing” that further demeans the predominantly female profession. “The Dr. Oz Show” apologized and called it an “attempt at humor.” [ AP ] The Catholic Anchor , the newspaper of the Archdiocese of Anchorage, published an article which said Planned Parenthood would be offering gift certificates for abortions. This article got picked up by other news outlets, despite the fact that it’s patently untrue: Planned Parenthood is, in fact, offering coupons for preventative services, such as birth control pills, but the coupons are not available for abortions. "Blue Valentine" Gets NC-17 Rating Overturned

We’ve been gearing up for the Ryan Gosling and Michelle Williams movie, “Blue Valentine,” for ages now. And so we weren’t happy when the movie was given an NC-17 rating due to an implied oral sex scene. What this means, in the grand scheme of things, is that the Motion Pictures Association of America (MPAA) hates female sexual pleasure. And indie filmmakers. And indie actors. But luckily, they just overturned their decision, which means I take back those mean things I just said about them. But I’m still skeptical of their intentions.

Cate Blanchett Joins "The Hobbit"

Signing up for what’s sure to be a hit flick, Cate Blanchett will be reprising her role as Galadriel in Peter Jackson’s adaptation of J.R.R Tolkien’s “The Hobbit.” The casting comes as a bit of a surprise, however, as Galadriel doesn’t actually appear in Tolkein’s novel, but perhaps Jackson is looking to balance out the male/female ratio. Blanchett’s role is that of the ethereal elf that she played in Peter’s “Lord of the Rings” trilogy. The adventure/fantasy film is rumored to be released in December 2012.Photo Credit: Getty Images

Katy Perry: Boys Need to Take Care of Themselves

Kicking off the New Year with a red hot cover, Katy Perry is on the front of the January 2011 issue of Maxim magazine. The “Hot N Cold” songstress shows off her own unique flair in the photo spread, dressed in several different black outfits. And in the interview, Katy gives guys some advice on how to be more appealing to the fairer sex – take a shower! Perry explains, “I think boys should take care of themselves hygienically. Some boys don’t – they just don’t realize how important that is to some females. Eating well and not living off of TV dinners, maybe trying to culture themselves. It doesn’t even matter what kind of world they come from or if they have money or no money- if you’re taking care of yourself physically, mentally, and spiritually, then you’re going to be in a good place.”Photo Credit: Maxim
