Kourtney Kardashian’s Family Holiday Shopping Spree

Enjoying a relaxing weekend with her family, Kourtney Kardashian spent the day shopping with boyfriend Scott Disick and son Mason in Los Angeles on Saturday (December 9). Looking to be joined by Scott’s parents, the trio continued to plug away in preparation of the holidays while loading up on all of their present needs. The family time comes shortly after Kourtney and her reality star sisters finished up promoting their new book Kardashian Konfidential. Doing quite well, Miss Kardashian blogged this past week, “This is so amazing! Kardashian Konfidential has gone up to #3 on the New York Times Best Sellers list!! This is honestly a dream come true and we can’t thank you guys enough. Kardashian Konfidential Sits on NY Times Best Sellers List, Apocalypse Approaches

We give up. We’ve tried to point out the obvious flaws in Khloe, Kourtney and Kim Kardashian (namely: an utter lack of talent), we’ve cited the latter’s publicity-based relationships, we’ve questioned why the topic of spreading mayonnaise on one’s vagina makes for talk show foder. But none of it matters. For reasons that defy comprehension, Kardashian Konfidential – the memoir that delivers such fascinating tidbits as Kourtney uses pink dish gloves – currently sits at number-four on New York Times Best Sellers List. To anyone who purchased it, we have a simple question: WHY?

Fashion Critic Lambasts Dash NYC as Overpriced Theme Park

Is it possible Kim Kardashian and her sisters are not as fashionable as previously believed? Might a store that carries their name also carry nothing but ugly, overpriced knockoffs? These are crazy notions, we know, but they’re the opinions expressed by Jon Caramanica, a fashion critic for The New York Times who spent time inside SoHo’s Dash NYC this week. One man’s take on Dash NYC? “As in most theme parks, there wasn’t anything worth carrying away but memories.” “Some items were baffling,” Caramanica writes . “Even Khlo? on her worst pre-marriage day might have struggled with the pink fur shrug ($484).” Referring to a $430 hat, the critic comments: “You could wear this look, in the same way you could hire an enthusiastic 5-year-old as your stylist.” Overall, “Dash is a fashion desert, just oodles of drapey cowl necks and embellished cap sleeves and synthetic fibers. Clothes are essentially split into two categories of fit: vacuum-sealed and hot-air balloon.” And, in case you were wondering: yes, you can actually purchase QuikTrim products at the store, along with $10 bottles of water with pictures of Kourtney, Khloe and Kim on them.

Men’s Fashion Is Looking Very Nordic This Winter—Yay Or Nay?

The New York Times points out that men’s sweaters are looking very folksy and Nordic this year, backing up their claim with examples by Topman and Ralph Lauren. We’re down with this slightly retro style for the ladies. It recalls all the goodness of winter—cabins, wood fires, skiing, snow. How do we feel about this look for dudes? Cute? Or should it stay on the ski slopes? [ New York Times ]

The Science Behind The Shopbop Redhead

Whether you’re a frequent buyer of Shopbop goods, or just peruse the site for style inspiration (we do), you have almost certainly noticed one glaring constant: the redhead model. She’s been a fixture on the site for six years running, and is instantly recognizable. Such a long tenure is perhaps now rare in the fashion industry when you hear reports of teenage models hitting the big time only to be forced to retire a few years later. But there’s a reason why Shopbop would stick with their signature model (there’s also a sultry brunette who often represents the brand). According to The New York Times , “A daily e-mail featuring either of these women acts as a Pavlovian trigger for customers to examine new arrivals on the site … ” But this tactic isn’t so much about mind games as it is knowing what the consumer likes to see. And, unsurprisingly, people like to see personalities. Relatable and familiar ones. OK, so maybe it’s kind of mind game-y. [ New York Times ]

Today’s Lady News: NY Times Asks If Female Empowerment Is Killing Romance

The New York Times published a piece asking, “Is female empowerment killing romance?” You mean will spinsters successful women die along with their 17 cats? Ugh, we’ve heard that myth before. (Also, check out how Jill Filipovic at Feministe unpacks the New York Times piece here .) [ New York Times ] A sexual assault prosecutor penned an open letter to Elizabeth Seeburg, the St. Mary’s freshman who this September reported an alleged sexual assault by a member of Notre Dame’s football team and killed herself soon after. Note Dame did not turn over her case file to the prosecutors office until days ago, after her story became national news; the school has also refused to release police records about Seeburg’s alleged assault to her parents. Many assume Notre Dame is coddling the accused player and knowing that they would be unhelpful may have led Seeburg to take her own life. [ Jezebel ] The Pentagon released its study on “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell” today. Surprisingly, 70 percent of service members believe allowing gays and lesbians to serve openly would have positive, mixed or no effect. Might a repeal of “DADT” soon follow? [ Huffington Post ]
