Whitney Houston Is Laid to Rest
Offering her talents to the emotional tribute to beloved singer Whitney Houston , Alicia Keys was among the performers on-hand at New Hope Baptist Church in Newark, New Jersey on Saturday (February 18). The 31-year-old sat at a piano in front of those gathered to pay their respects to the “I Will Always Love You” star while proceeding forth to offer up a rendition of “Send Me An Angel”. Just before delving into the song, Keys told the mourning friends and family members, “She’s an angel to us… and a beautiful human being.” Stevie Wonder also performed at Whitney’s funeral while Aretha Franklin unfortunately had to cancel due to medical reasons, as she stated, “Regretfully, I am so sorry that I was unable to be with you at Whitney‘s service today. I had every intention of being there. But unfortunately I had terrible leg spasms and locked leg muscles until 4:00 a.m. this morning following my concert last night, which I’ve been having for the last few days. I feel it necessary and very important to stay off my leg today as much as possible until concert time this evening. My heart goes out to my dear friend Cissy, Dionne, Bobbi Kristina and the rest of the family. May God keep them all. – Aretha & the Franklin Family.” Photo Credit: SplashNewsOnline.com

Whitney Houston Remembered in Speeches and Song
Bobbi Kristina Brown will attend her mother’s funeral today in Newark, New Jersey. But sources say her future beyond this memorial is unclear. Insiders tell TMZ that many members of Whitney Houston’s family are pushing for the 18-year old – who was hospitalized twice in the hours following the artist’s passing last weekend – to enter a rehab program… but are waiting until after the funeral to express this hope to Bobbi. A scene outside of Whitney Houston’s funeral. Brown has reportedly battled her own substance abuse problems in the past, as she was supposedly caught snorting cocaine last year. The family wants to learn from the tragedy of her mother, allegedly, and convince the teenager to seek help before it’s too late. But they also want her to properly mourn the parent to whom she was so close first. It’s a complicated situation and we can all just hope Bobbi Kristina comes out of it okay.

On The Today Show this morning, Matt Lauer and Bill O’Reilly engaged in a fascinating debate. It stemmed from the latter’s belief that Whitney Houston had a death wish, that nobody abuses drugs or alcohol in such a way ” if they want to stay on the planet .” Lauer countered this point by saying “addiction is a disease,” but O’Reilly shot back: “It’s a mental disease. You have free will when it comes to addiction. You don’t have free will when it comes to lung cancer.” Matt Lauer Interviews Bill O’Reilly (Audio) The main topic of the discourse, though, centered on the media’s handling of Whitney’s long struggle with substance abuse, with O’Reilly labeling all reports over the years as “sensationalized to exploit the woman’s condition, not try to help her. “You know what we in the media do, Lauer?” he asked. “We wink-wink it. We Snoop Dogg it. We Willie Nelson it. ‘Hey, oh yeah, they’re stoned, that’s fine.’” Is O’Reilly in favor of lowering flags in New Jersey Saturday in honor of Houston’s funeral? Yes, he believes we should respect the singer’s life. But he also believes journalists should have done the same for her before she died by taking a harsher stance on her drug problem. Listen to the audio above and take a side.

Matt Lauer vs. Bill O’Reilly: Did the Media Exploit Whitney Houston?
The official death certificate for Whitney Houston has been filed with Los Angeles County and made available to the public – but it reveals very little about the singer that we didn’t already know. The document runs through the basics – name, date of birth, occupation (“entertainer”), marital status, next of kin ( Bobbi Kristina ) and place of death – and also confirms that she’ll be buried at the Fairview Cemetery in Westfield, New Jersey. But it lists “deferred” pending further investigation as the cause of Whitney’s death. It’s strongly believed, of course, that Houston died because s he mixed prescription pills with alcohol , but no specific drugs have been confirmed. Autopsy results may not be back for weeks. The earlier reports are true: Whitney Houston will be laid to rest this Saturday in her native city of Newark, New Jersey. The service will take place at the New Hope Baptist Church, the same locale in which Houston (and cousin Dionne Warwick) sang in the choir as a child. Sources say the family wants to keep this event as private as possible and will limit capacity to no more than 300 guests. Meanwhile, Newark Mayor Cory Booker has come out and shot down talk of a public memorial, saying of rumors that one would take place later this week: “The Houston family has no plans to set up a public viewing at the Prudential Center this Friday. In compliance with the family’s wishes, the city is not moving forward with any public ceremony.” Across the country, of course, citizens and celebrities continue to celebrate the singer’s life in their own ways. LeAnn Rimes, for example, sang a tribute to Whitney last night.

Shopping the holiday away in the City of Lights, Vanessa Hudgens spent part of her Valentine’s Day (February 14) at a Chanel boutique in Paris, France. Looking chic in a black cardigan, ruffle-laden top, white trousers and platform booties, the “Journey 2″ actress quickly made her exit out of the store while toting her pricey new purchase by the nearby paps. Meanwhile, Ms. Hudgens recently dished about a much less glamorous time in her life, recalling her two week long stay at a homeless shelter to prep for a movie role. “For ‘Gimme Shelter,’ my character ends up at this pregnant, homeless teen shelter that’s actually ran in New Jersey by a woman and I actually went and stayed in the shelter for two weeks before I started filming, so I mean like, I lived there with all the girls, with all the kids, so I think that it’s really interesting because you find so much more about yourself,” Vanessa told Rachel Ray in an interview. The 23-year-old star also dished about cropping her coif for the role, telling Ray, “I actually cut my own hair for this movie, I did that to myself, yes I did.”Photo Credit: FameFlynet.com
